Tuning Mesogenic Polymer Structures with Chiral Epoxide Dopants

The study of chiral polymer compounds aims to mimic the functions of natural macromolecules. In this work, we synthesized basic and advanced chiral mesogenic diepoxide compounds using simple methods. Optical measurements confirmed their twisted helical structures. When used as dopants, these compounds improved the liquid crystal behavior of common epoxide monomers and polymer networks, resulting in cholesteric materials. Aromatic anhydride was used for bulk polymerization. The resulting materials were analyzed to evaluate the effectiveness of the modifications.
