Poly(pentylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PPeAT) is a biodegradable aliphatic-aromatic polyester with promising potential for sustainable material applications. However, its inherently low crystallinity limits chain ordering and processing performance. Herein, we try to enhance crystallinity of PPeAT using long-chain aliphatic dicarboxylic acid. These extended alkylene segments promote enhanced molecular packing and crystallization through improved chain alignment and intermolecular interactions. The resulting copolyesters were synthesized via melt polycondensation following an initial esterification step, achieving high weight-average molecular weights. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analysis confirmed a significant increase in crystallinity. These results demonstrate that structural modification using long-chain dicarboxylic acids offers a viable strategy to tune and enhance the crystallinity of PPeAT-based biodegradable polymers.
