Organic electronic devices offer advantages such as flexibility, light weight, and low cost, but their poor air stability and the resulting waste raise environmental concerns. This study presents an ecofriendly organic gas sensor based on blended films of poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) and polybutylene succinate (PBS). Vertical phase separation was controlled by tuning the substrate’s surface energy using self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) of Hexamethyldisilazane (HMDS). This treatment directed PBS to the top of the active layer and P3HT to the bottom. The PBS layer suppressed P3HT oxidation, thereby improving air stability. Furthermore, increasing PBS content reduced the required amount of conductive polymer while enhancing sensing performance. These findings demonstrate that the sensor simultaneously achieves improved sensitivity and environmental sustainability through the use of a biodegradable polymer.
