Anion exchange membrane (AEM)-based water electrolysis (AEMWE) is considered one of the most cost-efficient approaches for converting renewable energy into hydrogen. The hydroxide ion conductivity of AEMs is a critical factor for achieving high AEMWE performance. However, many AEMs exhibit unsatisfactory ion conductivity, and the factors governing their ion transport remain unclear. Herein, we propose a pyrrolidinium-containing diallylamonium-cyclopolymerized (PDT) membrane consisting of both linear and crosslinked monomers. The monomer composition was engineered to achieve high ion conductivity. The optimized PDT membrane exhibited higher AEMWE performance than commercial AEMs in both 1 M KOH(aq) and pure water. This study provides a high-performance AEM with engineered ion-transport properties.
