To develop efficient polymer photocatalysts for visible-light-driven hydrogen evolution, we synthesized BT-based conjugated polymers with varying amounts of BDT as a strong donor and fabricated them into polymer dots (Pdots) via nanoprecipitation. The optimized polymer, PBF8BT-2, achieved a hydrogen evolution rate of 22,134 μmol g⁻¹ h⁻¹ under λ > 420 nm with 8 wt% Pt, nearly twice the performance of F8BT. Photophysical analyses and DFT calculations showed that BDT incorporation enhanced charge separation, prolonged carrier lifetimes, and improved π–π stacking. This work offers a scalable design framework bridging organic photovoltaic and photocatalyst strategies.
