Hemostasis of arterial punctures created by catheters in cardiovascular interventions have been performed conventional methods such as manual compression, surgical sutures or vascular closure devices (VCDs). While these methods support the reducing time to hemostasis, they still depend heavily on operator skill and lead to complications such as bleeding or pseudoaneurysm. Here, we propose a vascular wall plug (VWP) utilizing the shape memory effect to achieve rapid puncture closure independent of operator skill. VWP consists of three components: Body, Ring, and Wing. Body and Ring facilitate tight plugging like bolt-and-nut, while Wing regulates blood flow to promote primary hemostasis. Additionally, we evaluated the functional role of VWP’s each component and demonstrated their synergistic hemostasis performance and vascular remodeling levels to conventional sutures, while minimizing operator skill dependency.
