To develop organic fluorescent sensors responsive to acid vapors, a novel cyanostilbene-based reactive monomer containing a pyridine unit (PCRM) was rationally designed and synthesized. The resulting PCRM exhibited aggregation-induced emission (AIE) behavior and showed reversible fluorescence changes upon exposure to acidic and basic environments. Utilizing the optimized PCRM-8OB mixture, two-dimensional (2D) hierarchical nanostructured films were fabricated via a sequential process of self-assembly, photopolymerization, and selective etching. Remarkably, the fabricated films displayed anisotropic sensitivity toward acid vapors, depending on the molecular orientation within the film. This study presents a novel optical sensing platform capable of visually indicating the risk level based on varying concentrations of airborne acid vapor.
