The growing plastic waste problem demands effective solutions to lessen environmental harm. One approach uses biodegradable polymers like Polybutylene Adipate Terephthalate (PBAT) and Polylactic Acid (PLA), but these materials lack strength and heat resistance compared to commercial polymers. Efforts to improve their performance, including copolymerization and blending, have been tried, yet these mixed polymers form immiscible blend interfaces, reducing properties and raising costs. This study introduces a new strategy by developing an alternating copolymer, Polyethylene Adipate Terephthalate (PEAT), using BHET (Bis(2-hydroxyethyl) terephthalate). By recycling BHET obtainable from PET and other sources, the synthesis enhances strength and heat resistance while preserving biodegradability. The resulting PEAT structure overcomes traditional biodegradable polymer limitations. This method supports scalable solutions, aligning with sustainability goals.
