A photonic crystal (PC) features a photonic bandgap that precisely controls light, enabling high color saturation through refractive index contrast. In this study, we present electrically responsive photonic crystal displays (EPDs) designed for high color saturation and low power consumption. EPDs use monodisperse colloidal particles in a medium, achieving tunable reflection based on Bragg's equation as the particle lattice changes with applied voltage. We investigated high-index core-shell particles, known for strong reflective colors in non-polar EPDs. Our research explored methods to enhance EPD performance and stabilize these particles in low-dielectric media. The results confirm that integrating these specialized particles into EPDs enables full visible-spectrum tunability, significantly improving color contrast, expanding the color gamut, and maintaining long-term stability under DC electric fields.
