Molecularly Engineered Single-Component Exciplex Host for Stable and Efficient TADF OLEDs

While exciplex hosts enhance charge balance and reduce driving voltage in OLEDs, most reported systems rely on vacuum deposition and complex multi-layer structures including HTLs. In solution-processed devices, binary exciplex hosts often suffer from phase separation and poor film morphology, limiting device performance. In this study, we designed a single-molecule exciplex host integrating donor and acceptor moieties via a flexible linker. This “Two-in-one” architecture improves solubility and film uniformity while enabling efficient exciplex formation. Applied in an HTL-free solution-processed TADF OLED, the device achieved superior efficiency and operational stability compared to conventional binary exciplex host systems. The simplified device structure also reduces fabrication complexity, highlighting the potential of single-molecule exciplex hosts for scalable, high-performance OLED applications.
