A luminescent oil-in-water emulsion was prepared using cyclohexane with cellulose nanofibrils (PCNF) and the interface was functionalized with amine (triethylenetetramine)–zinc graphene quantum dot (GQD) complexes. The GQD layer exhibits strong photoluminescence at an excitation wavelength of 312 nm. The photoluminescence of the emulsion is enhanced by the interaction with vitamin C (Vit. C - ascorbic acid) due to the passivation of surface traps and stabilization of Zn–TETA coordination. Similarly, upon UV excitation, Vit. C interacts with the GQD–Zn complex via its enediol groups, reducing surface defects and suppressing non-radiative pathways to enhance visible luminescence. Overall, photoluminescence at 312 nm excitation and 365 nm wavelength results in increased intensity, sensitive and selective detection of vitamin C from 10 uM. The PCNF–GQD–Zn-Amine platform offers a robust, environmentally friendly and cost-effective detection strategy.
