The sheath of power cables protects internal insulation and conductors from environmental stressors such as impact, moisture, chemicals, and UV radiation. As a key structural layer, it plays a crucial role in ensuring long-term reliability and service life. Polyethylene is widely used as a sheath material, with its crystalline structure and mechanical properties affected by cooling conditions during processing. These variations can influence crack resistance and durability. In this study, polyethylene specimens were compression-molded under quenching and slow-cooling conditions to control crystallinity. To assess the effect of crystalline structure on cracking resistance, specimens were thermally aged at elevated temperature under mechanical stress. The results reveal how cooling history impacts crystallinity and long-term performance, offering useful data for sheath design and lifetime prediction in power cable applications.
