Styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) is crucial for high-performance tires, known for its excellent abrasion resistance and wet traction. While traditional fillers like silica and carbon black are common, growing environmental concerns highlight the need for eco-friendly alternatives.
Cellulose nanofibers (CNFs), derived from renewable sources, are highly promising. They offer superior tensile strength and stiffness, making them ideal for reinforcing SBR composites. However, CNF's hydrophilic nature often leads to poor dispersion within the SBR matrix.
This study incorporated surface-treated CNFs into SBR. We evaluated the composites' mechanical strength, abrasion resistance, and thermal properties, and used SEM to analyze CNF dispersion. Based on our findings, we propose optimized strategies to improve CNF dispersion and compatibility with SBR. This research contributes to developing greener, high-performance tire materials.
