High PCE and stretchability are prerequisites for wearable applications of organic solar cells (OSCs). However most high-performance OSCs suffer from insufficient mechanical properties due to the brittleness of their photoactive layers . In this study, we develop OSCs with both high efficiency (PCE >15%) and exceptional mechanical robustness (COS >100%) by employing planar heterojunction (PHJ)-type photoactive layers consisting of a donor (D18) blended with an elastomer (SEBS) in the bottom layer and a blend of another donor with a small-molecule acceptor in the top layer. In the bottom layer, the incorporation of SEBS with D18 results in a bi-continuous network, which facilitates fast hole transport and effective mechanical stress dissipation. Simultaneously the top layer forms interconnected donor and acceptor domains, expanding donor/acceptor interface and promoting charge transport. These findings highlight the potential of the PHJ structure to develop OSCs for wearable uses.
