Cell pouch films, which serve as the exterior of pouch-type secondary batteries, generally adopt a multilayer outer/barrier/sealant structure; the sealant layer is typically polypropylene (PP). During manufacturing, the films are shaped by deep drawing, and the attainable drawing depth is critical for high-capacity designs. Anisotropy between the machine direction (MD) and transverse direction (TD) of the sealant layer is one factor that influences drawing depth. In this study, we quantify the strain-rate-dependent tensile properties of PP composite films containing inorganic particles and compare MD–TD disparities. Based on these measurements, we evaluate their applicability to deep drawing and the potential for mitigating directional property differences.
