Bio-based polymers are emerging as key materials for next-generation medical applications, offering both environmental sustainability and advanced functionality. Biodegradable adhesives provide strong bonding while being water-soluble and safe, making them ideal for temporary uses such as wound closure, surgical patches, and drug delivery systems. Shape memory polymers, capable of recovering their original form in response to stimuli like heat or moisture, enable the design of smart medical devices—such as self-expanding implants and responsive scaffolds—that adapt to dynamic biological environments. Together, these materials address the growing demand for safer, more adaptable, and environmentally responsible solutions in healthcare. As global efforts toward sustainable technologies continue, bio-based adhesives and shape memory polymers are expected to play a transformative role in the future of biomedical materials and medical device design.
