Abstract

Ultrafast laser spectroscopy was employed to investigate the excited-state dynamics of symmetric and asymmetric Y6 derivatives in solution. Systematic studies involving solvent polarity and excitation wavelength dependence revealed distinct photophysical behaviors arising from molecular symmetry control.
Notably, the asymmetric derivative exhibited additional spectral features, including a CT-like state with strong solvent dependence and distinct fluorescence emission separate from the localized excited state. The formation of this emissive CT-like state is closely associated with geometry redistribution, as evidenced by its excitation wavelength sensitivity.
These findings demonstrate that tuning molecular symmetry and structure offers an effective strategy for controlling excited-state pathways in π-conjugated systems, providing insight into rational design of next-generation optoelectronic materials.
