Abstract
Bismaleimide (BMI) resins are addition-type polyimides known for excellent heat resistance and mechanical strength, while offering processability similar to epoxy resins. With these properties, BMIs are promising materials for aerospace and other high-performance applications. Maleimide groups contain reactive double bonds that undergo various addition reactions−such as free-radical reactions, Michael addition, Ene reactions, and Diels-Alder reactions−without forming by-products. These reactions lead to tightly crosslinked networks that are thermally stable and durable. In this work, new BMI monomers were designed with extended conjugated structures to enhance network performance. Ester groups were also introduced to enable reprocessability via dynamic covalent bonds. These monomer-based polymers showed excellent thermal stability. And reprocessability through transesterification was demonstrated, and the materials retained their properties after two reprocessing cycles.
