Abstract

Lithium (Li) metal is considered a promising anode material for next-generation rechargeable batteries. However, challenges such as uneven Li electrodeposition and unstable solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) formation during cycling lead to premature cell failure and safety risks. In this study, we introduce an artificial SEI based on fluorinated polyethyleneimine (PEIF), featuring a super-hydrophobic yet lithiophilic protective layer. The nitrogen-rich PEI backbone facilitates uniform Li+ flux, while fluorinated side chains block moisture and solvent penetration, enabling dry room-free processability. Structural optimization of PEIF effectively suppresses electrolyte decomposition and Li dendrite growth, enhancing battery safety and lifespan. This approach provides a practical and scalable route toward stable Li metal batteries that are compatible with ambient manufacturing environments
