Abstract

This study develops a nanofiltration membrane based on poly(m-phenylene isophthalamide) (PMIA) hollow fibers using a co-deposition method involving metal-organic framework (MOF) nanoparticles and polydopamine (PDA). ZIF-8, a microporous MOF, provides high porosity, surface area, and chemical stability, while PDA facilitates strong adhesion to polymeric surfaces through self-polymerization. The co-deposition process aims to form a stable composite selective layer on the PMIA hollow fiber membrane, enhancing dye rejection and water permeability. Membrane morphology and surface chemistry are characterized by SEM, FTIR, and XPS. Permeability and dye separation performance are assessed through standard filtration tests using Congo red dye solutions. This approach aims to improve both the separation efficiency and durability of PMIA-based nanofiltration membranes, highlighting the potential of MOF-polymer hybrid interfaces in water treatment applications.
