Abstract

In this study, we introduce a green sol–gel route to synthesize a porous TiO₂ aerogel using TEMPO-oxidized dialdehyde cellulose (DAC). DAC reacts with a titanium alkoxide precursor to form a wet gel, which transforms into an aerogel via supercritical CO₂ drying and calcination. Aldehyde groups on DAC partially reduce Ti⁴, creating abundant oxygen vacancies. In CO₂ cycloaddition tests, the DAC-templated aerogel outperformed TiO₂ nanoparticles made by precipitation. XRD, SEM, BET, and XPS confirmed its high porosity, large surface area, and vacancy-rich structure, demonstrating the promise of renewable polymer templates for advanced photocatalysts.
