Abstract
Electrochromic(EC) devices offer low energy consumption, high optical modulation and simple structure, making them attractive for applications ranging from smart windows and displays to energy storage. Among these, WO₃‑based EC systems are widely used thanks to their excellent electrochemical properties, high optical modulation and superior coloration efficiency. WO₃ undergoes redox reactions via Li⁺ intercalation/deintercalation, so selecting a suitable electrolyte is critical. Although ionic‑liquid‑based electrolytes—valued for their non‑volatility and high ionic conductivity—are commonly employed, their multicationic nature makes them less ideal for WO₃ systems. Here, we introduce a novel electrolyte and perform a comprehensive comparative analysis against conventional ionic liquids, ultimately developing a high‑performance WO₃‑based EC device. This work provides valuable guidance for the design of advanced electrolytes in future EC platforms.
