Abstract

Inspired by nature’s use of surface-transmitted vibrations, we developed a soft electroactive patch that actively modulates adhesion through vibrations precisely tuned to control interfacial interactions. Incorporating a multiarray of microhairs with concave cavities, the patch enables lightweight, reversible, and spatially selective adhesion. The electrically activated soft material acts as a vibration-responsive adhesive switch that enables independent manipulation of multiple objects. Beyond adhesion control, the device serves as a skin-conformal, breathable haptic interface that delivers vibrotactile, enabling the perception of fine surface textures in virtual environments. By harnessing vibration-mediated modulation of adhesion, this platform connects object manipulation with human–machine interfaces, offering wide applicability in soft robotics, wearable technologies, and immersive systems.
