Abstract
P(NDI2OD-T2), a conjugated polymer with excellent electrochemical properties, has been applied in organic solar cells and transistors. Due to the redox-active carbonyl groups in its NDI core, it can store Li ions and serve as a cathode in Li-ion batteries. It also allows fluorine-free solution processing without PVDF binder. Notably, it retains over 95% of capacity after 2000 cycles at 10C, showing excellent stability. However, its capacity is limited to 52.4 mAh/g due to many inactive sites. To address this, we modified its structure to reduce inactive regions, achieving 85.4 mAh/g. Yet, increased solubility caused self-discharge. To mitigate the trade-off between capacity and stability, we aim to further tune the polymer structure and introduce additives. This strategy is expected to improve the electrochemical performance of organic cathodes while maintaining long-term stability, contributing to the development of advanced organic battery materials.
