Abstract
The development of high-performance n-type organic thermoelectric materials remains a significant challenge for the realization of wearable electronic devices. Here, we introduce an ion-exchange doping strategy to markedly enhance the electrical and thermoelectric properties of poly(benzodifurandione) (PBFD), a promising n-type conjugated polymer. The ion-exchange process involves the replacement of protons (H⁺) in the [(PBFD)⁻·mH⁺] system with external cations (X⁺), enabling improvements in both electrical conductivity and Seebeck coefficient. As a result, the optimized PBFD systems exhibited the highest performance among reported n-type conjugated polymers to date. These findings highlight the potential of ion-exchanged PBFD not only as a high-conductivity electrode material, but also as an efficient thermoelectric material, thereby expanding its applicability in organic electronic and energy-harvesting devices
