Abstract

Conjugated polymers (CPs) have been studied in the field of sensors and OLEDs due to their superior electron transport and thin film processability. However, CPs suffer from low conductivity and weak adhesion to substrate electrodes. In this study, the bandgap was controlled by introducing a donor-acceptor structure, and the problem was overcome by controlling the spin coating speed and baking temperature. The monomers were synthesized: one based on benzothiazole and the other on hydroquinone. These were polymerized via Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling and the resulting polymers were coated on electrodes. The synthesized monomers were confirmed by FT-IR and ¹H NMR spectroscopy, and the polymers were further analyzed by GPC and elemental analysis to show that they were polymerized. Electrodes were made from the polymer and followed by photoelectrochemical analysis to identified the band structure and to show its potential as a photocatalyst.
