Abstract

Polyurethane (PU) topcoats are primarily used as protective coatings for substrates in extreme environments, such as aircraft and wind turbines, owing to their excellent thermal insulation and mechanical strength. Recently, research has focused on enhancing anti-icing performance. This study investigated the anti-icing performance by controlling topcoat thickness and incorporating nanoparticles into the polyurethane resin, evaluating its dependency on both thickness and nanoparticle content. Based on the measured results, optimal conditions were determined to satisfy both mechanical and thermal insulation properties. This research was supported by the National Research Foundation of Korea(NRF) founded by the Ministry of Science and ICT(RS-2023-00211944), the Ministry of education(RS-2020-NR049575) and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy(RS-2023-0026563).
