Abstract
Ammonia is considered a promising carbon-free fuel due to its ease of liquefaction under mild conditions—at room temperature under moderate pressure (0.8 MPa) or at atmospheric pressure at −33 °C—as well as its compatibility with existing transport and storage infrastructure. Due to its high hydrogen content, ammonia can also serve as a hydrogen carrier; however, its decomposition and purification require substantial energy input. Consequently, the direct utilization of ammonia as a fuel has attracted considerable attention. In particular, direct ammonia fuel cells (DAFCs) based on anion exchange membranes offer advantages such as high energy density and simplified system architecture. This study presents a systematic investigation into the anode configuration and composition that influence the performance of DAFCs.
