Abstract

Polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) composite reinforced with glass fiber (GF) offers excellent dimensional stability, chemical resistance, and mechanical strength, making it suitable for electric vehicle capacitor housings. The fabrication of capacitor housings requires epoxy molding, where the bonding strength between the capacitor housing and the epoxy is a crucial factor influencing the final product’s performance. In this study, we enhanced the bonding strength between PPS/GF composites and epoxy by introducing functional groups and increasing surface roughness through atmospheric-pressure plasma. The introduction of functional groups was confirmed through XPS and FT-IR. The improvement of wettability was confirmed by calculating the surface energy through contact angle measurement. The changes in surface roughness were observed using AFM and SEM. The bonding strength of the plasma-treated sample increased significantly, reaching up to 24.8% compared to the untreated sample.
