Abstract
Controlling polymer topology is a key factor in determining the physical properties and functionalities of polymers in both bulk and solution states. In this study, we synthesized polyglycidols with precisely controlled topologies (branched cyclic, hyperbranched, and linear) and systematically compared their structural and functional characteristics. We successfully synthesized each topological variant of polyglycidol, and evaluated their mechanical properties using rheometry, dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), and nanoindentation. The self-healing performance of each topology was assessed through scratch tests and tensile testing. Furthermore, to evaluate adhesive properties, we synthesized topology-controlled poly(glycidoxy carbonyl benzoic acid)s (PGCs) and investigated differences in intra- and intermolecular hydrogen bonding interactions. These investigations revealed distinct differences in physical properties depending on polymer topology, highlighting the critical importance of precise topology control in the design of advanced polymeric materials.
