Abstract

Controlling intramolecular voids in polysilsesquioxane (PSQ) networks is an effective route to improve thermal insulation in hybrid polymer. In this study, oligomethylsilsesquioxane (MSQ-OH) was synthesized via a sol-gel reaction of triethoxymethylsilane and subsequently cross-linked with diglycidyl ether type cross-linkers to tune the size of intramolecular voids. Two cross-linkers with different molecular lengths, neopentyl glycol diglycidyl ether (NPGDGE) and poly(ethylene glycol) diglycidyl ether (PEGDGE), were used to prepare NPGDGE-BPS and PEGDGE-BPS films, respectively. From two PSQ films, the effect of intramolecular void size on the thermal conductivity was investigated. The structural and thermal characteristics of the resulting polysilsesquioxane films were analyzed by the spectroscopic and thermal techniques. This was supported by Korea National University of Transportation in 2025.
