Surface Passivation via Pb–S Coordination Using (3-Mercaptopropyl)methyldimethoxysilane for Perovskite CsPbBr3 Nanocrystals All-Around Stability

Abstract

Perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) are attractive materials for optoelectronic applications, but their long-term stability remains a significant limitation. In this work, we explore a surface passivation approach using a sulfur-functionalized silane ligand, 3-mercaptopropylmethyldimethoxysilane (MPMDMS), to improve the environmental durability of CsPbBr₃ NCs. Through ligand exchange, MPMDMS forms strong interactions with surface Pb2+, leading to enhanced photoluminescence (PL) and improved resistance against moisture and heat. The treated NCs exhibit preserved optical performance along with superior stability in polar and thermal conditions. This study highlights a facile surface modification strategy for enhancing the robustness of perovskite nanomaterials.
