Abstract
Rochelle salt is a non-toxic and eco-friendly piezoelectric material, notable for its excellent crystal growth and ease of processing. Although it shows a high piezoelectric coefficient and spontaneous polarization near room temperature, it suffers from fragility and reduced stability due to its sensitivity to environmental changes like temperature and humidity. For these reasons, ceramic and polymer materials have generally been preferred. In this study, RS was maintained in an anhydrous state, and a composite film was fabricated by applying an electric field to vertically align RS crystals within a PDMS matrix. This RS/PDMS film exhibited a maximum output voltage of about 8V, demonstrating high-performance piezoelectric response while retaining non-toxic and eco-friendly characteristics. These results suggest new possibilities for the development of eco-friendly, high-performance piezoelectric devices and energy harvesting technologies utilizing RS by overcoming issues of stability.
