Abstract

The development of stretchable energy storage devices with both high energy and power densities remains a major challenge for next-generation wearable and deformable electronics. We introduce redox-active ionogels (R-ionogels) incorporating organodisulfides as redox species for use in high-performance, stretchable solid-state electrochemical capacitors (R-SECs). The R-ionogels are formulated by combining tetraethylthiuram disulfide (TETDS), the ionic liquid [EMI][TFSI], and a physically crosslinked polymer network of P(VDF-HFP). Electrochemical characterization, including CV and GCD tests, confirms that the R-SECs exhibit both pseudocapacitive behavior from redox reactions and EDL capacitance. Notably, the device utilizing a 0.25 M TETDS R-ionogel achieves a high specific capacitance of 405 F/g, an energy density of 117 Wh/kg, a power density of 5.9 kW/kg, and retains 83% of its capacitance at high current densities with 80% cycling stability over 2000 cycles.
