Abstract

DNA-mediated colloidal self-assembly has attracted significant interest due to its precise programmability. Building on previous work involving polymer substrates patterned by capillary force lithography, we now demonstrate DNA-modified polymer substrates and controlled assembly of complementary DNA-coated colloidal particles into well-defined monolayers with complex geometries. Using hexagonally patterned substrates, we successfully fabricated particle monolayers exhibiting a honeycomb structure. In contrast, square-patterned substrates enabled the formation of particle monolayers with a cubic arrangement. The particle monolayers, assembled via DNA hybridization with the substrates, exhibit enhanced stability and maintain structural integrity. These results highlight the versatility of DNA-mediated interactions in guiding colloidal assembly on customized patterned surfaces, advancing the design of colloidal superstructures with tailored architectures.
