Abstract

Supraparticles (SPs) are assemblies of nanoparticles (NPs), that retain NP properties while exhibiting macroscale behavior. SP formation is typically directed by evaporation-driven self-assembly of NPs inside a droplet on a superhydrophobic surface. However, conventional methods often rely on plain hydrophobic surfaces, which limit control over SP morphology. In this study, we investigated SP formation on 3D-printed micro-pillared substrates with superhydrophobic surfaces. After 3D printing, the micro-pillars were chemically treated to render them superhydrophobic. The geometry of 3D-printed features, such as pillar thickness and arrangement, dictates the final SP morphologies. The proposed approach simplifies the fabrication of superhydrophobic surfaces by minimizing processing time and complexity, offering a facile strategy for controlling SP morphologies.
