Abstract

High-strength materials like para-aramid are generally difficult to recycle and, at the end of their useful life, remain as waste, causing serious environmental pollution. However, recent research has revealed a method for separating aramid microfibers, making recycling possible. Breathable films are mass-produced by adding inorganic fillers like CaCO3 to polyolefin and inducing interfacial separation through a stretching process, facilitating the formation of micropores. In this study, PE/CaCO3 composite films used as breathable films were acid-treated to remove CaCO3 and expand the pores within the films. These films were then immersed and coated in an recycled aramid nanofibers (ANF) suspension dispersed in ethanol to produce olefin-based composite films containing recycled ANF, and their properties were evaluated. This study was conducted with support from the Ministry of Science and ICT (RS-2024-00419614 & 2025 KNU RC-UniLab Project).
