Abstract
Neurostimulation is used for a variety of disease treatment, yet conventional metal and polymer based electrodes cause faradaic charge injenction, leading to gas evolution, electrode degradation and ion exchange. These effects compromise long-term stability and biocompatibility of the device, limiting its clinical application.
Here, we present a multicross-linked membrane-ionogel assembly (McMiA) that enables a stable neural interface. The McMiA consists of a dopamine-cross-linked graphene oxide based membrane and a genipin-cross-linked biopolymeric ionogel, forming an anti-degradable network and ion diffusion layer that prevents synthetic-biological ion imbalance. Introducing of ionic liqiud extends the electrochemical window beyond physiological limits, preventing undesired electrochamical reactions. This synergistic combination ensures improved long-term stability, highlighting McMiA's potential as a promising platform for advanced neural interface engineering.
