Customizable 3D Nanoprinting for Advanced Plasmonic Nanostructures

Abstract

Metallic nanoparticles are essential in nanophotonics for manipulating electromagnetic fields at subwavelength scales, enabled by localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR). The plasmonic responses are highly dependent on the geometry and composition of each nanostructure, making precise structural control crucial. To address this, various fabrication techniques have been explored. In this work, we introduce a meniscus-guided 3D nanoprinting technique for fabricating freestanding plasmonic nanostructures, overcoming the main drawbacks of traditional nanolithography, such as limited throughput, high cost, and confinement to planar shapes. The resulting nanostructures offer robust performance in applications like metamolecules, biosensors, and photothermal systems. We expect this strategy will act as a versatile platform for customizing the fabrication of plasmonic nanostructures and flexibly tuning their optical functionalities as needed.
