Abstract

In response to the growing demand for sustainable energy technologies, Li–S batteries have emerged as a promising next-generation alternative to conventional LIBs. Li–S batteries offer significantly higher theoretical energy densities at a substantially lower cost, utilizing earth-abundant and environmentally friendly S. In this presentation, I will introduce key strategies based on nanocarbons designed to enhance the performance of Li–S batteries. First, I present a free-standing S cathode with high S loading, constructed using a functionalized SWCNT-based conductive fibrous network. This architecture enables efficient electron transport and accommodates high S content. Second, I demonstrate a commercial separator modified with a functional nanocarbon interlayer that employs a dual polysulfide-trapping mechanism. This approach effectively suppresses polysulfide shuttling by blocking their migration toward the Li anode, thereby enhancing cycle stability.
