Abstract
Organic semiconductors capable of short-wavelength infrared (SWIR) detection are emerging as promising materials for flexible, lightweight, and cost-effective optoelectronic applications. This presentation highlights our recent efforts in the molecular design and synthesis of nonfullerene small molecule acceptors (NFAs) optimized for SWIR sensing. We demonstrate that precise tuning of molecular architecture enables significant red-shifting of absorption spectra beyond 1300 nm. By integrating these NFAs into organic photodetector (OPD) devices, we achieve enhanced photoresponse and detectivity in the SWIR range, along with exploring potential applications in low-light optical communication. Our findings underscore the critical role of molecular engineering in unlocking the potential of organic semiconductors for SWIR optoelectronics.
