Abstract
Solar heating and radiative cooling can reduce energy use by utilizing the Sun (~5800 K) and outer space (~3 K) as natural heat sources and sinks, but single-mode operation limits their adaptability. This study introduces reversible thermal devices using 3D structures assembled via mechanical guidance. These devices enable: i) dual-mode switching via uniaxial strain, ii) integration of rigid/soft materials through optimized design, and iii) thermal control on macro- and microscales. Using black paint-coated PI for heating and PDMS/silver/PI multilayers for cooling, they reach 59.5 °C and −11.9 °C. Mode changes by 3D angle and performance on various substrates are also demonstrated.
