Research & Development of MEA/PEM for H2 Fuel Cell and Water Electrolysis

Abstract
A high level of activities in the fields from a polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) to a PEM water electrolysis (PEMWE) has been made to realize its commercialization and to develop sustainable energy technologies for achieving decarbonization targets. However, there are still technological hurdles including high cost, performance loss, and inferior durability with long-term cycle. Herein we present the R&D progress of the PEM and membrane-electrode assembly (MEA) for FC and WE applications. Future development in a broad range of hydrogen-related industry will be performed by balancing high performance against multiple functionalities and manufacturing cost.
