Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) based on dye-adsorbed nanoporous titatium oxide are considered to be promising alternatives to conventional silicon solar cells because of its low production cost, simple structure, and easy production. To improve the stability of DSSCs, substituting the liquid electrolyte by the solid or gel electrolyte has been considered as offering several advantages compared with the original wet cells. In this article, to improve the stability of DSSCs, we developed a new type of polymer matrix based on modified polybutadiene (PB) by sol-gel process. The modified PB layer was carried out by cross-linking reaction by oneself. The layer of modified PB containing triethoxysilane group onto nanoporous titanium oxide electrode was shown to improve the stability of DSSC and to provide high conductivity as well as charge transfer ability.
