Organic dyes are widely used industries for high chemical stability and low degradability, but their persistence in water raises toxicity and necessitates effective removal. Composite membranes are promising for water treatment because they offer high separation efficiency and mechanical durability, but conventional multilayer fabrication methods generally require multi-step processing and may lead to pore clogging and leaching.
In this study, we fabricated a poly(vinylidene fluoride)/cellulose acetate/iron oxide (PVDF/CA/Fe2O3) composite membrane with enhanced mechanical stability and photocatalytic functionality in a single step by direct electrospinning onto a cellulose paper filter substrate. This study reveals mechanical interlocking and photocatalytic performance as a function of CA and Fe2O3 content, demonstrating the potential of the PVDF/CA/Fe2O3 composite membrane as a mechanically stable, photocatalytically active material for water treatment applications.
