Abstract

Organic photodetectors (OPDs) have attracted considerable attention for short-wave infrared (SWIR) sensing owing to their flexibility, lightweight nature, and solution-processability. In this study, a narrow-bandgap non-fullerene acceptor (NFA) was developed by incorporating an indanone-derived terminal unit and a strong electron-withdrawing group (EWG). The molecular design enhanced intramolecular charge transfer, reduced the optical bandgap, and produced an absorption onset beyond 1400 nm in the solid state. The fabricated OPD exhibited a detectivity exceeding 1 × 1010 Jones at 1500 nm, demonstrating efficient SWIR photodetection. These findings highlight the effectiveness of combining indanone-derived building blocks with strong EWGs for high-performance SWIR OPDs.
