Abstract

Once the technology landscape has been defined, dissemination of a breakthrough technology usually progresses along key applications before reaching market maturity. Given the significant boost in application span, the adoption of 3D Printing in research has been fast. The addition of technology usually impairs a required boost in materials alongside effectively catalyzing new application fields and thus paving the way for further expansion. It is difficult to foresee even the very next steps in this development given the current speed in development. In a few years, many of the classical machining workflows will rely on methods developed very recently. It will be truly interesting, to see the next generation of techniques come to full fruition.
